For Dessert: Salted Caramel Brownies

This past weekend I made salted caramel brownies (note: not the ones shown above).

I had been wanting a good excuse to use my flor de sal I bought in Chile and what

better way than to mix with chocolate and caramel. The brownies were delicious and

completely satisfied my sweet and salty craving.

I am very excited about our move to the area of Wilmington. I have been

doing some research on what there's to do and I am excited to be arriving around

I started learning Photoshop Elements and let me tell you that I am already

a bit frustrated and overwhelmed by it. I know it takes a lot of patience, which

is not one of my virtues, but I will proceed because I don't give up easily.

I am wanting to learn it because I would love to be able to create better graphics

for the blog and because graphic design interests me. The few things

above have helped a little with my frustrating moments. It feels so luxurious to

light one of my favorite candles while reading one of my favorite magazines. This is

a simple pleasure that will be enjoyed less frequently once I am stateside.

An Easy Way to Mix Patterns

I love the look of wearing mixed patterns, but I can't say that I have mastered this yet.

This look above is one of my favorites for its simplicity.

I have found that an easy way to start mixing patterns for beginners such as me

is to keep it simple and to keep the patterns in the same color tone. Gradually and the more

comfortable I get over time at mixing patterns, the intensity of the patterns can increase

I hope. But for now, simple it is and if I wasn't seven months pregnant,

I could see myself wearing the outfit below.

I love the combination of these classic colors (black and off-white or blush) with

just a touch of gold. I am lusting over the shape of those brass andirons holding

the wood in the fireplace. I am highly considering painting our fireplace

(if we have one) a deep black. Not only does it look very elegant,

but I am also loving the contrast of the off-white walls and the black fireplace.

This weekend, AJ and I dabbled in painting some artwork for his new

room in North Carolina. It's always fun planning a new room and I am trying

my best at getting him excited in our move. He has a best buddy here in

Peru (they are like brothers) and I know he will miss him dearly (and so are we).

Another week has come and gone. Six more weeks in Peru, and then I will be home.

Six weeks! I can't believe our year in Peru has almost passed. I am looking

forward to a relaxing weekend after one busy week and catching up on some of

my favorite magazines. On Saturday, we have a Summer Carnival to attend and

I hope to wear my new necklace. And I am loving my gold bird that keeps my

wedding rings and earrings. After our move, he will find a home on my nightstand.

Every once in a while you find beauty products that make you wonder

how you lived without them. These are a few for me:

1. Clinique rinse-off foaming cleanser: The best makeup remover I have found. It leaves my face soft and smooth.

2. Josie Maran Beautiful Bronze Kit: The perfect natural kit to create that "gorgeous radiant glow" all year round. I am especially loving it for Summer. It goes on very smooth and I love that the products use natural and organic formulas.

3. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant: It does wonders on healing chapped skin or sunburns.

4. Bio-Oil: The best face and body oil I have found that does way more than treat scars. It has served me well in both my pregnancies to prevent stretch marks, it helps improve uneven skin tone, helps smooth and tone aging skin, and it can be used as a bath oil.

5. Kerastase Elixir Ultimate: This is one of my newest finds. My hairdresser used it recently and my hair felt smooth and silky. It can be used in damp hair as a pre-blow-dry, as a finishing product to infuse shine, or as a retouch for dry wild hair that needs extra control. One of the best things about this product is that it can also be used as a pre-wash to remove impurities. My hairdresser recommended me using it as a pre-wash once a week.

6. Sultra The Bombshell: This curling iron has great reviews and what made me pull the trigger and buy it was Victoria's own review that the curls stay in your hair for more than a day. I was on the search for some sort of curler that was fast and easy to use, especially when time to do my hair will be drastically limited with two kiddos. I am loving this one because I can skip a day of washing my hair and still have beautiful waves in my hair.

Just sharing a few things I am admiring as of late.

1. I am loving this poster. I could see it in a gallery wall for a

work space. It would serve as a nice reminder.

2. These dusty peach flats brought me back to the most coveted

wedge of 2011 that I missed on. Adding these flats would fill a gap in my closet.

3. I have always admired calligraphy and learning how to do it has been

on my list. Now you can learn by following this tutorial and using this pen.

4. I am loving this Delfonics for Top Hat pencil and it would look tres chic

next to this notecard ensemble in the gild color.

Thank goodness it's Friday! Our problem at home still hasn't been completely

fixed, but we are getting there. Moving on to prettier things, my Celine look-a-like

arrived and it helped with the madness at home. I absolutely adore it!

It looks very high-end and the leather and color are exquisite. Another little bauble

that helped my week was my new Lulu Frost bangle that the hubby gave me

for Valentine's day. And I couldn't help but add a couple of books that I can't wait to peruse

through this weekend in a quiet reading corner with a cup of tea.

Today is a busy day. My list of things to do keeps growing, but I like that.

What doesn't help is that I am feeling a little unmotivated. And yesterday something that

happened put a big damper on my day or should I say week.

Half of our apartment flooded. And to top it off, ~~people~~ plumbers in South America

don't move as fast as in the United States. I am still waiting for one to arrive.

Excuse my frustrations today and I hope to be back tomorrow more motivated!

A Change

The Breakfast Nook

I am so happy to say that in just two months we will be flying back home.

My excitement of course is bittersweet because I will miss so many of the friendships

I have made in Peru. But the hubby's job takes us back to the States and part of my

excitement has to do that we want to buy a house really soon upon our arrival.

Most of the houses we have been looking online have a breakfast nook

and I hope we can have that option.

but we need chairs for it. I am thinking modern or retro to make it less formal

Two things caught my eye this weekend and they can both bring

a little more sophistication and glam to a bar. And they happen to be in black and gold.

The first is this vintage black decanter that had gone unnoticed until Sarah pointed it out.

It sits in Michelle's, co-founder of Lonny Magazine, bar. And you can find one here.

And the second one is this card set that would look lovely in a secretary-turned-bar.

I would use it to jot down my cocktail recipes or creations, or random thoughts or lists.

Scenes from My Week

that bowl along with some other things (not pictured here) came home with me.

It seems like from now on every week will zoom by.

We may end up going home earlier than expected and so my days

seem to be busier these days with projects and to-do lists to get done.

My week included fabric painting, picking up frames and dropping more things

to frame {a weekly visit to my framer man is needed at this point},

sewing pillows in dark grey/pewter (see first image), organizing the baby's

stuff I have accumulated here from friends, some very much needed beach time

with AJ and girlfriends, and last but not least visiting my favorite

store in Peru - the Adler factory.

Metal Basket for Toys: High & Low

I have been lusting over the toy basket in AJ's style board.

But the price online completely turned me off.

Thank goodness I found what seems to be the perfect alternative

and it is on clearance right now. You can have it personalized as below

for an additional cost, but I opted not to do that and instead hope to grab

some big letter stencils and some black fabric paint to get the look of the

Aidan Gray metal basket (pictured above).

AJ's Style Board

Until now, I really hadn't had a clear vision for AJ's big boy room.

I had seen this idea, but didn't completely love it.

Then came one very early morning and this idea came to mind that I got up

while it was still dark to put AJ's style board together in fear

that the idea would slip my mind (it's those pregnancy hormones).

Hues of browns, blues, black, and white will be in AJ's room.
And since he loves pretty much all animals {and dinosaurs},
some will be used to give it that "boy touch."

Latest Flea Market Finds

I love it when I find great stuff at great deals.

Here are a couple of my latest finds.

This tablecloth used to be a blanket. I don't think the detail on it can really be

appreciated through this picture, but I just love how pretty it looks with some of

my milk glass vases and my Astier bowl. I paid less than $3.00 for this queen size

blanket that I made into a 90-inch round tablecloth. I absolutely love it!

It reminds me of this one, and I hope to use it in our future patio.

And remember this post. I am happy I have an old portrait now.

I took it to my trusty framer here in Peru to get it framed in gold leaf

for super cheap. I am going to miss my framer man when I am in the States.

Project: Fabric Covered Storage Bins {& Sneak Peek}

I have had this fabric for over a year waiting for the right project to use it on.

I think I have decided what I want to do with it.

My goal is to create storage bins by using this fabric.

My preference would be that the color brown on the fabric be a soft gold color.

An order of gold fabric paint has been made and I am hoping that it works well.
I will test it first, but if it doesn't work, I don't think the brown will be that bad.

Fun DIYs for A Child's Room

Yesterday, I showed you my DIY paper bunting for Ella Sofia's room.

Today, we have just a couple more that I hope to attempt at some point.

I am so impressed by this DIY kitchen. It's small and compact and stylish.

The hubby and I don't have the skills to do this, but maybe I can take advantage

of the cheap labor in Peru. Now, I just have to convince the hubby. It

would look super cute in Ella Sofia's room. I am also loving the colors she used.

And how cute are these craft jars. AJ would love these with

dinosaurs on top. And let me tell you that we have plenty of dinosaurs to cover

about 50 jars. AJ is at a phase where he really enjoys coloring and I think

he would absolutely love dinosaur jars.

DIY: Paper Bunting

This past weekend, inspired by lay baby lay, my new favorite blog,

I completed a paper bunting for Ella Sofia.

See my previous post to see Ella Sofia's nursery style board.

I used this tutorial on their blog but I did modify it a little (see below).

It will hang on her crib just like in the photo above.

To make the bunting you will need:

card stock paper

pencil

ruler

color printer

paper cutter

a very long 3-inch piece of fabric or ribbon (I used the length of 3 yards)

a sewing machine or a needle with thread

Modifications to tutorial:

1. Since I didn't have a hymnal book, I went online and found this

hymnal note of Amazing Grace.

2. I inserted the Amazing Grace jpg onto a word document

and expanded it to fit vertically twice on the paper.

3. I then printed enough card stock sheets to print the letters onto it.

4. I reloaded the printed hymnal card stock paper onto my printer. I then

opened up a new word document and typed the letters of my child's name

(1 letter per hymnal note, 2 letters per sheet, see below).

And then I printed the letters onto the hymnal card stock paper.
I used font Modern No. 20 and the size was 100.

5. Then I decided I wanted the top of each triangle to be 5 inches in length.

I found the center, using my ruler, on the letters and drew a line 5 inches long.

And then I drew each triangle.

6. Using a paper cutter, I cut my triangles.

7. I sewed the card stock triangles onto the 3-inch by 3 yards piece of fabric by folding the fabric in half.
I ended up with this pretty printed paper bunting for Ella Sofia's crib.

Once we are settled in the States and we have her crib, I hope to show you

how it looks hung. I really can't wait to be settled already.

Ella Sofia's Nursery

Since we are moving in less than 3 months back to the States,

I can't physically build a nursery. But here's what's on my mind for

Ella Sofia's nursery. The room will have hues of gold, grey, pink, and white.

Yesterday, I shared with you 11 must-have books for a little girl's library.

Now, let's build the library!

All you need is a blank wall and some of these:

1. Ribba Picture Ledge

I love the simplicity of the Ribba picture ledge.

Just get a few of these, if necessary, cut to fit your space, and you are ready to go.

2. Bekvam Spice Racks

Just add some paint (or not) to a few of these spice racks, mount, and

you have created your own library.

3. Billy Bookcase

My favorite look is customizing the Billy bookcase.

Here is a tutorial on how to give it that custom look.

I am hoping to use one of these options in AJ's and Ella Sofia's room.

A Gold Gilt Mirror

quite some time. And just recently, I found this antique gilt mirror here in Peru.

He currently stands in my bedroom, but I plan on using him in our future

A DIY Bed for Marley

How time flies when you are having fun!

I can't believe the countdown has begun for us to head back home

to the beautiful United States. Our time in Peru and South America

has been an unforgettable experience. I have made some of the best friends,

blessed with great neighbors, and they all have been like my extended family
for the past months. I am sure I will miss all of this and all of them, but I am also excited

to be going back home. In approximately three months,

we will be making our trip back to the United States, but before my life gets crazy,

as every move inevitably does this, I wanted to offer my readers

Old Portraits

Lately, for some odd reason I can't explain, I have been drawn

to spaces with old portraits. I love the way they can bring balance to any room,

from bedrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, or bathrooms.

I think they can work in any space when done right of course.

This first image is my favorite. I love how bright it is, how well modern and

traditional elements were mixed, and how the old portrait sort of brings balance.

And love the classic white and black combination of this bedroom nook.

Book of the Month: Breakfast Lunch Tea

After perusing the February issue of Martha Stewart Magazine on my iPad

this weekend, and reading the section of "Our Finds," I came accross

this book, Breakfast Lunch Tea.

This book, by the famous Anglo-French bakery tucked away near

Gard du Nord in Paris, Rose Bakery, is beautifully illustrated and features 100

of the most popular recipes from Rose's bakery. One of the recipes that

I am dying to try is the honey granola which according to Caroline Campion, author behind

the blog Devil & egg, is the best and a perfect cold-weather project for the kids.

And if you do make this delicious granola, the perfect jar to store it in is in

a Weck canning jar, which I think are so simple yet attractive.

And I was happy to see that you can find these at Crate & Barrel.

Antique Dresser

The hubby and I went antiquing yesterday and found this at a great deal

(sorry for the crappy photo)

and reminded me a lot of this one

which would go well with my inspiration for AJ's room.

The dresser needs some work, such as a new coat of paint and

we have already hired someone to get started on it.

I will keep the color black and will be replacing the top knobs.

I am beyond excited that we will welcome a baby girl in June.

I am already thinking of the room design of course, I have some ideas

that stem from these photos. We already have a dresser, but it needs some work.

But other than that, we need to buy almost everything.

I am loving the gray and gold accents in this room.

And of course, pink will be present, but I am thinking in smaller doses.

And just last night I made the first purchase for her room.
Somehow I am going to incorporate this mobile into her sweet
and romantic room. I may end up painting the mobile. And these frames
may also make their way into her room. I don't know why or when my love
for horses began, but I am really drawn to them.

Happy New Year!

2011 was a great year for us:

- We moved to Lima, Peru in April 2011 and said good-bye to Monterey, California.

- During our time in South America, we have visited Southern Peru (here and here),

Argentina (here and here), Uruguay, and recently Chile for Christmas and New Year's.

Some picture of Chile coming soon.

- Hubby and I celebrated our 4-year wedding anniversary in June.

- We found out in October that we are expecting baby #2. On Tuesday, I will find out

if it is a boy or a girl. I will make sure to let you all know.

- AJ turned 3 in December! Amazing how time goes by so fast.

And 2012 has great things for us too:

- We have a trip planned to Brazil in March. We will be there one month and

hope to learn some Portuguese.

- We are finishing up our year in Peru in April which means

we get to go back to the States.

- We are hoping to buy a house and buy new furniture.

- In early June, we will welcome a new baby.

P.S. My first months of pregnancy were a bit tough with nausea and a lot of fatigue,

and primarily the reason I have been MIA from blogging. I hope to get back to it more often.

My DIY DANNIJO Necklace

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was going to work on this DIY. And last week,

I was so excited when I gathered all the supplies to make this necklace

that I even decided to skip Pilates and finally cross it off my to-do list.

As some of you may know, the talented Grace from Stripes & Sequins featured

this DIY at Glitter Guide. This was my first time doing a necklace and

I do have to say it was a little intimidating at first and along the way I found myself

improvising a bit. Needless to say, I am really happy with the end result.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

For years now, I have been on the search for a really good tortilla soup recipe.

I am so glad my hunt is over. I hope you try it soon because I think you will

love it too. The hubby has said he wants to eat this soup once a week.

And it is so healthy, easy, and fast.

Here is the recipe.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Serves 4 - 6 as a main dish

2 Tbsp vegetable oil

1 small onion, diced

2 Tbsp fresh minced garlic

3 Tbsp green enchilada sauce (canned)

6 cups low-sodium chicken broth

1 (14.5 oz) can fire roasted tomatoes, diced

1 (14.5 oz) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained

3 chicken breasts or about 1 lb of chicken, boneless and skinless

2 limes, juiced, plus wedges for serving

salt and freshly ground black pepper

1 cup roughly chopped fresh cilantro leaves

Toppings:

1 dozen corn tortillas, cut into thin strips, oven-baked*

2 avocados, pitted and diced

Shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Sour Cream

Limes

Chopped Cilantro

Directions:

In a large saucepan heat the vegetable oil. Add the onions and cook for 2 minutes.

Once the onions have softened add the garlic and cook for another minute.

For the chicken broth, enchilada sauce, tomatoes, and beans into the pot and bring

to a boil. Once at a boil, lower the heat to a simmer and add your chicken breasts.

Cook the chicken for 20 to 25 minutes. Once the chicken is cooked, remove from pot.

Shred the chicken in a bowl using two forks. Add the lime juice and cilantro to the pot.

Add salt and pepper to taste. Then add the shredded chicken. Serve with toppings.

*Oven-baked Corn Tortilla Strips

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Cut your corn tortilla in thin strips.

Place in a large cookie sheet not overlapping each other (you may have to do

this in batches) and cook for 8 - 10 minutes or until golden and cripsy.

This recipe was adapted from this recipe.

Homemade Body Scrub

I love the idea of giving homemade gifts to friends for Christmas.

In a few weeks, I will be hosting a cookie & ornament exchange party

and I think a homemade body scrub will be the perfect party favor.

My friends can leave with homemade cookies, a new Christmas tree ornament,

and a little something for some pampering. Today, I made some for me

to test it and I already love it. It is also perfect for dry hands.

I am thinking I may keep a jar by my hand soap.

Lemon Sugar Scrub*

1 cup of organic cane sugar**

1 (4 oz) bottle of Burt's Bees Bath & Body Oil

lemon zest of half a lemon, optional

12 oz PET jar with cap, sks-bottle.com

I just printed the labels on sticker paper.

* recipe makes 1 jar

** you can use sea salt or Epsom salt, but I find salt can sometimes irritate my skin.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

I woke up this morning in the Holiday spirit and craving

a Pumpkin Spice Latte, a drink I have often around this time of year.

But since our Starbucks in Peru doesn't make it in the Spring,

I decided to make my own.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

Serves 2

2 cups of milk

3 tablespoons canned pumpkin

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, plus more more garnish

1 cup strong brewed coffee

whipped cream, optional

Cinnamon sticks for garnish, optional

Combine milk, pumpkin, and sugar in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat,

stirring until steaming. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and pumpkin pie spice.

Whisk the mixture until foamy. Transfer into two mugs, filling each only half way.

Top with coffee. Add whipped cream and cinnamon sticks, if desired.

Inspiration for AJ's Room

Ever since Domino magazine featured Jenna Lyons' son's room, it immediately caught my

attention when I was pregnant with AJ. I thought the room was playful and modern

with classic twists. And I have enjoyed seeing this room evolve as he's grown up.

I can't get this outfit out of my head. I think I dreamt about it too.

I love the mix of patterns - the florals, stripes, and leopard seem to flow

so effortlessly in this outfit. I may try this soon. I finally ordered

a pair of leopard flats I had been lusting over (see this post). They are

selling out quickly and I also had a 20% coupon from Piperlime.

I currently don't own a pair of slippers. I use my smart wool socks around the house,

but I think it is time to get a pair of comfy slippers and preferably some that are also

stylish. Stubbs and Wootton are the ultimate splurge as they are handmade and

can also be worn outdoors. As they are a bit over my budget, I think I will try

one of the other pairs featured here. The cat slippers were recently featured in Glitter Guide,

and while they are fun and playful, I am leaning more towards the eyelash or pom pom.

One of my places to visit in Argentina was the San Telmo Flea Market

(No. 2) which is only on Sundays. I am so glad we were there over the weekend.

Large Scale Beach Photography

Now that we have an apartment with a great view of the beach

these images really make me want to add an oversize beach print.

The first image includes a print by Massimo Vitali and the second one

is by Christian Chaize. I was able to buy a small print of the Christian Chaize Praia

Piquinia before they sold out on 20x200 and I am so glad I did.

But I would still like to add an oversize beach print. It would look great in our living room.

And in looking at affordable options I found this one below of Coney Island

for sale at Urban Outfitters. The size isn't as big as the ones pictured above, but it

is still a good price for the size. And I really like the pops of turquoise.

We are heading to the City of Buenos Aires today. Our first stop was at this estancia

where we met up with some of our best friends to enjoy some horseback riding,

Just a short post today since I am busy finishing up some packing, and picking up
some last minute items from the store because tomorrow I will be on a plane en route to Argentina.

This will be a vacation of a lifetime.

Packed & Ready for Argentina

I am not a light packer as you can see below. I am hoping I am under 23 kilos (50 pounds)

or I am just going to have to wear lots of layers on the flight. But I can't go anywhere

without taking a few silk blouses, red skinnies, leather shorts,

striped blazer and shirt, my favorite cheetah skinnies, and a few of

my favorite pairs of shoes.

The gloves will stay home. I thought it would be more chilly, but thank goodness

the weather forecast is in the 60's and 70's and sunny. I will be wearing the

cable-knit sweater and the navy blazer on the day of our flight with a pair

of jeans and the equestrian boots since we will be arriving at an estancia (hacienda).

Carnitas Tacos

Last Friday, I was craving something fresh and good to celebrate the

first day of Spring and this is what I ended up cooking.

Carnitas Tacos

We actually ended up hosting a spur-of-the-moment dinner party.

It was great and the tacos were delicious.

Here is the recipe from the Williams Sonoma Essentials of Slow Cooking.

Carnitas

For serving:

warm corn tortillas

lime wedges

chopped yellow onion

Homemade Salsa (from my Grandmother, recipe follows)

chopped fresh cilantro

Ingredients:

salt and freshly ground pepper

1 boneless pork shoulder roast, (3 - 4 lbs)

1/4 cup olive oil

1 yellow onion, finely chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1 1/2 cups (12 fl oz) Mexican, lager-style beer (I used a Corona)

grated zest and juice of 1 large orange

grated zest and juice of 1 lime

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1. In a small bowl, combine 2 teaspoons salt and 1 teaspoon pepper. Season the pork roast generously with the mixture and set aside.

2. In a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, warm the oil. Add the pork, and cook, turning frequently until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.

3. Pour off all but a thin layer of fat in the pan. Add the onion and garlic and saute until they begin to soften, 1 - 2 minutes. Add the beer and deglaze the pan, scraping up the browned bits on the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon.

4. You can cook it in the oven or a slow cooker.

Oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Add the pork to the beer mixture. Add the orange and lime zests and juices and the oregano. Cover and cook until the pork is very tender, about 2 1/2 hours.

Slow cooker: Transfer the pork to a slow cooker and pour in the beer mixture. Add the orange and lime zests and juices and the oregano. Cover and cook until the pork is very tender, 5 hours on the high-heat setting or 10 hours on the low-heat setting.

5. Once the pork is done, transfer it to a cutting board and cover loosely with aluminum foil to keep warm. Use a large, shallow spoon or a ladle to skim as much fat as possible from the surface of the cooking liquid. Using a large sharp knife and a fork, coarsely cut and shred the pork into small bite-sized pieces. Arrange the meat on a warmed platter or individual plates, moisten it lightly with the cooking juices, and serve at once with the tortillas, lime wedges, chopped onion, salsa (recipe follows), and cilantro.

Homemade Salsa:

3 medium tomatoes

1-2 large Jalapeno peppers

1/2 of large onion, coarsely chopped

1/2 bunch of fresh cilantro

1. Cook the tomatoes and peppers in a pot full of water and cover for about 10-15 minutes or until the tomatoes and peppers are softened.

2. Place tomatoes and peppers in a blender with the onion and cilantro. Add a little of the tomato and pepper water. Blend until pureed. If needed add more of the water.

3. Season with salt to taste.

4. Serve it warm or refrigerate it for later.

My Week In Review & Some Links

This week was great and went by too fast. Here is what my week included:

- A movie date at our favorite Cine Bar. We watched Crazy Stupid Love and we absolutely loved it. Have you seen it?

-I also started figuring out what I am packing for Argentina as I mentioned in this post. It was harder than I thought. And 23 kilos isn't that much by the way. I will share what all I am packing next week.

-I baked some graham cracker cookies shaped as sharks using this recipe. I am practicing making them for AJ's 3rd birthday party which is in December and since it will be the beginning of Summer, we are throwing him a pool party. For my inspiration, see my board in my Pinterest.

-And we had a couple days of sun and AJ and I enjoyed them at our rooftop pool playing with dinosaurs and soaking in the sun. It was the perfect opportunity to use my new-to-me Rebecca Minkoff Wine & Bread tote.

Ready to Entertain

Every year this happens: towards the end of September I get in Holiday mode.
Normally, I think it has something to do with seeing the pumpkins at the grocery store,
the Halloween decorations and candy at Target, but this year is different since I am in Peru.
I am seriously missing seeing all of these things. And one year by this time, I was done Christmas shopping.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen this year, but I am ready and excited

about doing some Holiday entertaining.

And this chest just happens to be very affordable and from Ikea. I am kicking myself

for not buying one before I left the States. I read the article in House & Home

last December and I meant to get one, but time just got away.

I came across this video through Natalie's blog and I was so inspired by it that

I thought I would put together items that I must layer with this Spring. And I know that

Spring isn't necessarily known for wearing layers, but I guess it all depends where you live.

And I love the concept of layering. It adds so much more depth to an outfit and it is a good way

to stay warm in the cool Spring temperatures. If you start with basic neutrals as pictured above,

then the rest is easy. Just add a pair of skinnies, shorts, or a skirt, and you are good to go.

And don't forget to throw on a silk scarf and some accessories.

Red Wine Chocolate Cake, yes please!

Seriously, two of my favorite things (chocolate and red wine) for indulging in a cake.

I made it last week and we all loved it. I especially liked it with a glass of red wine
and the hubby enjoyed it with a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream.

with all white accessories got my attention. I think it is time to add one to our home. Now I need

This Spring I am trying to attempt a few new looks. One of them

try to do more things with my boring hair and I am definitely going to try the high bun.

The Perfect Red

Red is a color that looks great no matter what season it is. My favorite red lipstick is Poppy

King for J.Crew. And although I am still getting used to wearing bright lipstick,

it has been a good change to my otherwise simple, same-old look.

I am kind of simple when it comes to getting my hair done. And bright lipsticks

will be a nice welcome to my regular natural makeup look this spring.

While some of you are about to embark the fall season,

I am so excited for our spring season. The last couple of days we have had some

sun for at least a few hours each day and that means spring is so close. {In Lima, winters

equal no sun.} And this J.Crew Spring 2012 Collection has me excited about wearing more

brights, pastels, and off-whites. And I am also loving the 3D effect of this inspiration board.

Leopard Love Part 2

I am loving this leopard trend. For me, it is better when done in small doses

or in classic styles. I was wondering if I could pull off leopard loafers in the

Spring (about to begin this month), and I came across a picture

of Olivia Palermo in green neon shorts, a relaxed sweater, and a pair

of leopard loafers. Now to me, that outfit screams Spring, so

I guess leopard loafers can work just as well in the Spring as in the Fall.

And on my wish list is this pair of loafers in the brown.

And I am on the lookout for neon shorts.

Color Craving

This Tiffany blue color is perfect for the home or wardrobe. If done right,

it can almost act as a neutral tone. Lately, I am loving the look of blue walls.

It is such a serene and calming color and just bright enough to add a pop

of color. Two things on my wish list in this color is the silk blouse

and the Chanel nail polish. And a trend I must try this Spring is

to wear my black leather shorts with a black and white
striped tee and a bright neon clutch.

My meeting with my prospective employer went really well and I hope
it works out. If it does, I would be working from home. This
would be just what I need to get me motivated to do something about our
unorganized and unappealing home work space. And it wasn't hard to figure
out the aesthetic and style of the potential look of my home work space.
I am inspired by Michelle Adams' office in the Lonny Magazine Headquarters
by its white and black interiors, pretty gold details, and pops of bright pink and yellow.

Recreating the "Famous Mauro's" Pizza

When we lived in Monterey, California, we ordered

pizza at least once a week from a place called La Piccola Casa.

Their Famous Mauro's pizza was our favorite. We liked it that much

that we would order two of them. There are a lot of things we miss about

beautiful Monterey and the surrounding towns, such as Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Anyway, last week I tried to recreate the Famous Mauro's pizza.

It wasn't the same, but close and it brought back a lot of good memories.
Every now and then, and since the hubby and I first met, we have been making
our own pizza. Unless of course, we live around the corner from La Piccola Casa.
We always use this pizza dough and sauce recipe from Food & Wine.

So if you visit Monterey go to La Piccola Casa in Pacific Grove and try

the Famous Mauro's. If you visit Carmel, go to Carmel Belle for Sunday Brunch.

The atmosphere is so relaxed and dog-friendly. You won't be disappointed.

Our next visit will be next May when we go pick up Marley.

Traveling to Argentina: Places to Visit

In early October, we are visiting the beautiful Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Here are a few things on my places to visit list in no particular order:

1. Stop by the Zara store in Palermo Soho and buy these blazers. I was told that
South American stores will soon start to carry this year's Spring/Summer Collection that
just went through Spain and other parts of the world.
Palermo Soho epitomizes the retail atmosphere of Buenos Aires.

2. Visit San Telmo, the bohemian quarter of Buenos Aires, and do some

flea market shopping in Plaza Dorrego.

3. Visit Mission and see their selections of leather goods and cowhide rugs.

4. Have drinks at Gran Bar Danzon.

5. Eat at Bar 6.

6. Eat pizza at El Cuartito.

7. Enjoy steaks at La Cabrera.

8. Visit Perugia Bottier where they specialize in women's handmade leather shoes.

9. Brunch at Brasserie Petanque. A lively spot for Sunday brunch.

10. Wine tasting at Anuva Wines.

11. Take a city tour.

12. Visit the neighborhood of Recoleta. Through the avenues
of this neighborhood are stores like Hermes and Louis Vuitton and other
equally upscale Buenos Aires specific boutiques.

I am so excited about this trip, that I have mentally packed my bags.
